really liked it
bookshelves: fiction, religion, women

The story was far-fetched but once I got over that, I enjoyed getting to know the characters and trying to figure out what really happened (which I didn't - the end surprised me). This book was a kind of cross between The Poisonwood Bible and The Scarlet Letter - exploring the complexities of human relationships, the ways our culture impacts our understanding of moral "rights" and "wrongs", and the pros and cons of being honest about our darker sides vs. keeping up appearances. Given that these are some of my favorite topics, I had a hard time putting the book down.
