Lively and candid enough to be enjoyable even for someone like me who knows almost nothing about baseball. At a distance of four decades it doesn't seem quite as scandalous as it apparently did in 1970, but it's still surprisingly frank — frank enough that, for example, I'd be very interested to read an equally honest book about contemporary soccer — and it's an entertaining read. The three added chapters from later editions catching up on what Bouton did after baseball are less lively, but they have their moments.
