Jacoby writes about the pervasive anti-intellectualism that - it seems to me- has only become more rampant and toxic in the four years since this book was published. The book probably hit the shelves just as Sarah Palin hit the airwaves.

Jacoby writes about junk thought and junk science and our culture of distraction, and - at least in my opinion - hits the nail on the head.

But there are times she's a bit of a curmudgeon, pooh poohing pop culture, and claiming that back in her day no one would have said or done whatever outrage she has just described.
