my college roommate recommended this book to me - it's been one of my favorite books since the second page of this novel (the line "i knew every raindrop by its name" - that's what got me).
it's a short book of the most beautiful, ethereal, surreal writing, and i love every inch of it.
surprisingly, the film of this book is also fantastic. for me, the novel is darker and i got a very different feel from the movie - but i loved them both - they are the same and separate simultaneously - it's kind of like how i feel about the UK and US versions of "the office". what i love most is that usually, for me, when i see a film of a book i've read, the picture of the book that i created in my head disappears under the more solid and detailed view the movie offers. but with these, i can still see the novel clearly in my mind's eye despite having seen the movie.
READ IT READ IT, it's about 160 pages, quick read, and i promise, you won't regret it.
