it was amazing
bookshelves: first-reads
Read in June, 2012

Mac Carthy’s novel has to be one of the most exciting new reads this year, with an utterly gripping plot that will give you Goosebumps. It is a most original and thrilling tale about two different sociopathic organizations who intend to pursue the same path, that leads to geo-political power and control over the global financial system. A most unexpected twist lies in store for the main characters and that is on such an epic scale as to shock and overwhelm; regarding mankind as an entire species on planet Earth. The storyline is one that attracts your interest immediately with its detail and most fascinating & distinctive characters, which draw you into the world that Carthy has created where each piece of the puzzle begins to fall into place after each read page. What I did not anticipate was the immense scale in which the story increases and how it takes the level of drama to new heights that blow you away. I was sat perched on the edge of my seat with chills running down my spine, with the unfolding consequences that were taking place within my mind. It was as if I was being transported within the book, thus being able to visualize so clearly the rapidly unfolding events. What was so astonishing was how you began to read about an attempted murder of a young girl, which transpired into something more as hidden secrets and mystery unfolded that related to something on a very large scale that was totally unexpected; this being the attempted assassination of the presidents of the United States. Once introduced to such interesting characters, the storyline then gets even better with more secrets being uncovered and such a dense plot as to ‘really get your teeth stuck into’. Finishing on a most spectacular conclusion, I had been completely mesmerized from beginning to end by the most imaginative and creative novel that I have had the pleasure of reading this year and one which is now well & truly etched within my mind. Here is an author whom really excites me with such a work that exceeded all expectations, of such a high standard that deeply astonished me. It was so thought-provoking, chilling, quite scary and one that gets you thinking very deeply to a point of restlessness and I was certainly keen once I had read a few chapters to finish it. Being truth-drawing an quite sinister, it almost makes you at times re-evaluate and reflect upon matters regarding mankind and creation as a whole with ‘life’ in general at the very core. This novel was truly spectacular and one in which I left my soul in, after creating such an impact on a wide scale and also personal level.
