Bold, brazen, and beautiful, the Reckless Brides refuse to play by society’s rules of courtship. But—come hell or high water—they always get their man…

For generations, the Kents have served proudly with the British Royal Navy. So when her younger brother refuses to report for duty, Sally Kent slips into a uniform and takes his place—at least until he comes to his senses. Boldly climbing aboard the Audacious, Sally is as able-bodied as any sailor there. But one man is making her feel tantalizingly aware of the full-bodied woman beneath her navy blues…

Dedicated to his ship, sworn to his duty—and distractingly gorgeous—Lieutenant David Colyear sees through Sally’s charade, and he’s furious. But he must admit she’s the best midshipman on board—and a woman who tempts him like no other. With his own secrets to hide and his career at stake, Col agrees to keep her on. But can the passion they hide survive the perils of a battle at sea? Soon, their love and devotion will be put to the test…

Review: Almost a Scandal by Elizabeth Essex captured my attention from page one and didn’t let go until the very end.

This was my first historical romance read and despite reading at least a hundred books a year, I found myself a little apprehensive about this one. I wasn’t sure what I would come across as far as the story, the writing, and the plot; however, once I started, I couldn’t stop. I even found that once that book was over, I wanted it to go on; I wanted more.

Ms. Essex has a way about her writing that keeps you on the edge of your seat and manages to keep you riveted to each and every last word. There are books I have read before; even good ones, where I have skipped through meaningless narration, long paragraphs that seem to just be “fillers” for the novel. Ms. Essex; however, keeps the reader entranced with every word written. I had started this read late one evening, only to find I didn’t want to go to bed and immediately the next morning, picked it up. It was a very sweet, thrilling, funny, and romantic read that sucked me right into the world of the characters.

The scenes were very well written and Sally and Col gifted me with a ride alongside them in their journey for “more.” You’ll find the book full of everything you could want. You get the action, the suspense, the comedy, the heat and most of all, the love that spreads through your limbs as it all comes together.

Seeing as this was my first historical romance, I want more to read. The only thing that did disappoint in this journey of discovering a new author is her book prices are a bit high – e-readers or paperback. It is frustrating, unfortunately and I’ve never been a fan at spending ten dollars on a e-book that has been out for over six months. I will most likely wait for the prices to drop before I buy any of her work – or even so, pity be, be unable to read another fabulous read.

All of that aside, I whole heartily recommend this book to anyone on my list. It’s one you don’t want to miss. Five out of five stars.
