The fourth book in the series is the best so far. Which isn't saying a whole lot, really. The plots are thin and stretched out with tedious twists that I usually skim or even skip over. The characters never really develop or grow, although this book does bring to a conclusion the Vicki-Henry-Mike love triangle. Vicki almost allows herself to be something other than bitchy in this novel, but the ending makes it apparent she's going to probably be just as bad, maybe even nastier, in the last book in the series. The fifth is the last, apparently, but I sort of need a break from the nonstop bickering, condescension, and put-downs that pass for snappy dialogue in these books. So, I think I'll read the new Sookie Stackhouse book for my vampire fix before I move on to the last of the series.
