A fascinating read, but I wanted more science. It felt a bit like it was geared to undergraduates. I wanted more in depth explanation of the science behind, for example, mirror neurons. I like that he approaches the topic from several angles - dreaming, psychology, play, etc. Theatre was a big left-out area. Many of Gottschall's examples are plays, but he doesn't acknowledge that there's a difference. And while he's talking about new ways of telling stories - gaming, for instance - he never mentions the form of storytelling that's millenias older than the novel. His view of stories is definitely focused on novels and I think the scope of the book suffers because of that.
