Read from May 18 to June 28, 2012

FREEFALLING is a well-written story about life on the street as told through the POV of an abused, pregnant teenaged runaway, but at its heart, it is a heart-breakingly poignant book about pain, love, and friendship.

It is a powerful and intense novel - Darlenne Girard tells an overwhelmingly realistic story that will rip your heart out ten different ways (in good ways....if that's possible). The characters and dialogue are brutal yet richly drawn, the characterizations vivid, and the portraits of life on the street are dead on - the descriptions couldn't be any more realistic. There are no fairy tale endings - pain and hurt run throughout this book - but it is one of the most engaging books I have read in the past few years. It is brutally honest and unyielding in the strength of its narrative. You can't put it down, and when you're finished, you'll probably want to take a deep breath, then hug your kids.

An excellent book.
