Most of the time I find EBear's writing stultifyingly overwrought and her prose purple to the point of ridiculousness. But I was intrigued by the concept of Range of Ghosts, and its basis in mostly non-Western cultures. It has good strong characters, especially female ones, and the writing is tolerable to competent. The only real gripe I have with the book is that it's pretty much setup for the rest of the trilogy, and does not resolve as strongly as I would have hoped. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I look forward to the next book in the series.
