This novel was gripping, hard to put down, and I got so wrapped up in it towards the end that I actually had the feeling of 'where am I? what?' when the phone rang and startled me back to my own reality.

Story follows one family for a year, season by season, as the characters race through life headed for a train wreck. From one father who cannot love to another who withholds his love, and a mom who feels detached from her 13-year-old son(who's unplanned early pregnancy pretty much sets her future for her) and a little girl, Gracy, whom she loves dearly. The son, Trevor, has emotional issues and is also being bullied at school. Then there is the young pregnant clerk at Walgreens who witnesses the mom shoplift every time she comes in the store, but doesn't turn her in...
on and on the story line goes...

I'm going to look up some of this author's other books....
