Jen's review
The Dead of Summer by Camilla Way
This first novel is written so well that my stomach was clenched during 2/3rds of the book. From the book jacket, I knew that nothing good would happen, but I didn't realize how much I wanted something, anything, redeeming. This book should force readers to confront the images of child violence--the hows and they whys that are parsed when a child lashes out at other children.
This isn't for everyone, but it is well done. My heart aches for the characters in the book.
