Burned into my brain: A single panel from The Chained Coffin with the image of Cynthia's corpse/spirit impaled on the devil's barbed hook. She is being pulled upward in the distance, finally and fully taken by her demon-lord. Hellboy's arm reaches up into the frame, yelling "stop!" What should be the command of the righteous compelling an evil spirit, sounds more like a child pleading with forces far beyond his control, and suddenly, far beyond his understanding as well. The whole story brings meaning to, and takes its meaning from, this one panel. The most elegant and human short story I have encountered in a long time. A new favorite.
