A charming and delightful book. While this book is for children, I loved it. The idea that a family could have a "pet" elephant while being refugees during WWII Germany is quite absurd, yet the story is told in a way that makes you believe it. The characters are portrayed well. The family is a normal one, with no distinguishing characteristics, yet we get to know and care for the members.
