it was amazing

A well-crafted story that takes you back to the 80's when there were LPs and VCRs and no cell phones.

It is a bottom-up take on the murder/mystery in that it investigates how these murders affect the town they occur in instead of looking at the murders through the eyes of the police. You watch as the main character and his friend's friendship strengthens as they cope with the horrors of the murders and their own lives. But I don't want to give anything away because the twists keep you guessing until the very end.

I've read all Gallagher's books now and I have to say he's a very good emerging voice in fiction. His characters are always very lifelike and realistic, but they also make you feel what they feel without getting mawkish. It is a murder/mystery on the surface, but also a story of redemption as the main character tries to come to terms with his dysfunctional family. I actually thought his family life was just as interesting and mysterious as the murders.
