What a book!! What a great author!!
My salutations to 'Ashapurna Devi', Boss you are incomparable, for me she is the BEST Bengali author ever for fiction.
The writing style, the granularity, the characterizations, the clarity, the consistency-- all of it come alive with such a great force, that the seasoned reader is overwhelemed!
After this I continued reading her other books (Subarnalatha & Bakul Katha- both Hindi translations) & I was ever-amazed to see that her grip as a story-teller never slackens, not even dips anywhere, it just keeps soaring higher & higher.
For all the afficiadoes of Indian-society observers, the Indologists who want to get viggnettes of the collective lives of Indian women for almost a century, here is a chance.
Her three books starting from 'Pratham Pratishruti' 1850's India's village to 1950's Independent nation, captures the turmoils & traivails of women in all her beauty & constraints.
A must read for all Indians. Avilable in Bengali, Hindi & English.
