There are five women sailing first class on the winter voyage of the Beatrice Cenci. Another passenger is a hired killer, out to eliminate one of the women. Readers are privy to his thoughts, but not to the identity he's sailed under, nor do we know which woman is his target. They all have secrets, and people in their lives who would be richer or happier if they were dead.
