Leave it to a master writer to turn what should be a swan song into a prelude to new adventures! Rankin's detective -- John Rebus -- is close to retirement, but his life is no less tumultuous, and his rebellious streak is strong. This is a masterfully-written book -- a rare mystery which deepens and becomes so much more powerful as you near the ending. All of Rankin's Rebus mysteries are worth reading, but this one might be the best yet. I won't write more about the book lest I spoil any of the suspense, but do check it out.
