I blazed through this book and was astounded by Egan's ability to create unique characters and distill descriptions of everyday moments into incredibly memorable vignettes. Those aspects of this book were magnificent. Especially what I'd call Egan's "mini-novel tangents" - where the book suddenly fast fowards in time - describing someone's life and condensing it, and all its drama and wonder, into like a three-sentence snapshot. These were artful, and captivating.

I also liked how Egan wove so many snippets together, through time and place. By using different narrators for each chapter, however, there were some hits and some misses. I enjoyed some chapters immensely but couldn't wait for others to end. Overall, I wouldn't describe this as a novel with a story to tell, but more like an overarching series of short stories that all intersect in some way or another.
