Meredith's review
The Plague of Doves: A Novel by Louise Erdrich
Louise Erdrich comes into her own in this book. As always, she has wonderful, difficult characters and a real sense of environment. But in "The Plague of Doves," she's not afraid to really get into the language, the characters. I really liked "Love Medicine," but never felt her subsequent books lived up to her projected trajectory. "The Plague of Doves" goes beyond what I had expected. I would have given it five stars, except for the ending--I mean, she still pulls off a satisfying, literary ending, but at the same time, damn "The Sixth Sense" and how it influenced storytelling! Damn it to hell!
