The stories about Lawrence Anthony's Elephant tribe (and his dogs) on Thula Thula are very touching, but they are not so much the focus of the book, as much as they are a thread that holds this biography of life on an Animal reserve in Zululand, South Africa, together. It has a lot of action, but I couldn't help but feel that some of it (like conversations recalled in absolute clarity) was disingenuous. The phonetic writing of Anthony's French Partner, is a little off putting. But other than that, it is an interesting read, and I am glad there are people like him out there, risking their lives in order to advocate and protecting wildlife.
