Catch-22
by Joseph Heller
Hi Laura,
I just had to write back because I found it fascinating that you didn't like Catch-22. It's funny, because I think it's one of the greatest books written in the last 100 years...It is an idea novel rather than a character-driven novel, which usually doesn't work for me, but because the voice is so strong, the comic pull and structure of the novel so incredible, and the themes/anger of the book structured to have their own momentum, I find the book unforgettable..I just reread it for the second time. I'd love to hear more of your thoughts tho, if you've time. I'm always interested in the other side. Krys

i couldn't even finish it, it was so awful. heller wrote many, many, many pages about this guy, yossarian, and never gave me one reason, or even one word that would incline me to give a shit about him. how can you get to know someone, realize you couldn't possibly care about him any less, and still be persuaded to read hundreds of pages about him? not me.
