Wow. I'm really glad I didn't buy this book, it was one I happened to pick up at the library. The stories are short. Like, real short. Four in this book. Which means the authors were not only cramped in their style, they really had to work fast and it didn't make for good reading. I ended up skimming most of the stories. I'm not going to count any of these authors out by I'm also not going to look for them on purpose.
"Hannah's Luck" by Lora Leigh-Kindergarten teacher Hannah Brookes is living a simple life. She's been attracted to the sheriff, Rick Grayson, for a long time now but he was burned by his wife (she was feeding information to a home-grown terrorist group as well as sleeping around on him and doing cocaine.) Now, it seems that Hannah's being targeted by the militia group and Rick is there to make sure that she stays safe. For a short story, there were some inconsistencies including one character was described as having three children then later as having one. Probably would give this one 2 out of five.
"Reckless" by Red Garnier-Paige Avery was in a horrible accident that stole her memory. Her mother immediately whisked her away from Phoenix, but now she's back to try and sell their house as well as discovery her missing past. Zach Rivers was part of that past and he intends to help her solve her past. He's also been obsessed with her ever since and wants to work his way back into her life. 2 out of 5.
"Tempt Me" by Alexis Grant-I've not read any Grant stories before so I don't know if she writes like this always but some of the "thug" talk really threw me off. Anita Brown has finally chucked her family out of her life. She's an R&B star whom they've been sponging off of for years and she's sick of it. Since they were providing her security detail, she now needs some new bodyguards. Zachary Mitchell is on leave and offers to fill in for his buddy. It's like the Bodyguard. Definitely would have been good as a full-length or at least a Harlequin Presents. We don't get much of an ending. 3 out of 5
"Love Me 'Til Death" by Lorie O'Claire-Like the last one, I wish this one could have been fleshed out more because I think I probably would have enjoyed it quite a bit. Ashley Jones is a homicicde detective whose scene has just been invaded by special agent Chase Reed. Why does he get involved? Because he's there. No other connection that I recall. They fall in lust, he tries to horn in on the investigation even though they're not even in his jurisdiction. Didn't like how this story was put together but it was okay. 2 out of 5.
