The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic and Madness and the Fair that Changed America by Erik Larson
This book is one of my favorites. Historical ficiton is the coolest thing, ever. I was stunned by his ability to create an image by sheer numbers--the number of train cars or the number of bolts to give you an idea of the scale of the thing, for example.
Oh, goodness. I might read it again. So cool.
