While I found this title to be rather lackluster, I rather liked the book! This is a family saga mostly set in Iowa.... chapters are character vignettes... big sister, younger brother, third brother, youngest sister.... and jaded older cousin who struggles after service in Vietnam. Heard from some friends who didn't like this book very well, but I liked the reality-based feel of it, and could really relate to the feelings of alienation arising from being on the "outside" sometimes in a small town, and also from the anonymity of life in a big city. I found the characters real and interesting, with some dramatic moments but not too many to make it seem fantastical.
