Written back when Ken Follett cared more about plot/details/storyline/character development rather than hammering out formula fiction. UGH. Sucked.

59744 It is a pretty cool book. I believe it was written like 20 years ago or something. I like that it references Du Maureir's Rebecca - one of my favorites ever (and yours).

59329 omg I LOVE Rebecca. Ok, ok, ok, ok. So I ended up buying it on ebay ... only because it cost 50 pence plus shipping and on amazon.co.uk it was like ten bucks. Omg I am SO excited ... Ken Follett always delivers, and if it so much as mentions Rebecca, I'm sold. :)

48853 I just picked this up for 50 cents at the book fair this weekend :) Yay!

Btw, I'm halfway through the real Rebecca - just as amazing as everyone said!

59744 It does more than mention Rebecca. There is a specific reason to why it is named "The Key to Rebecca". Yay! I'm excited.

978027 Hmm two stars for a book that sucked. That's pretty generous!

59744 The funniest thing...I didn't want to give you my opinion on it because I did not want to sway you either way. I knew because it referenced Rebecca, you would want to read it. Perhaps that is why you gave it the 2 stars. I actually skipped a few chapters in the middle because I became so bored with the plot descriptions. I read it about a year ago and I can't remember most the details but I remember thinking that he didn't tie up some loose ends and that bugged. It wasn't my favorite Follett book, but it did reference Rebecca. :)

48853 Hmm, I'm almost done with Rebecca so I may start this one soon ... I also have 'Rebecca's Tale', is that any good?

59744 I haven't tried Rebecca's Tale but I don't hear good things about it....it's disappointing. The problem with books like Rebecca, is NOTHING will ever compare. Ahhh...good literature. So rare.

59329 Yeah, nothing will ever compare with Rebecca, and fuckin Ken Follett just used it in the title of this book to sell more copies. Lame. Literally was reading one paragraph per page in the last 150 pages, didn't miss a damn thing. The guy just doesn't know when to end it quickly and wrap it up nicely.

I would put it on my sucked shelf, as it DID suck ... but it wasn't sucky enough to be on my sucked shelf. :)

48853 Per Nic's comment ... ya it's like the piece of shit Scarlett - nothing will ever come close to Gone With the Wind

59744 I don't think I've ever actually read Gone With the Wind. Eeks! Can you believe it?

48853 That indeed is a travesty!! Definitely one of my top 5 ever. The movie leaves out some major plot-lines and the book is just so much more intense.
