Ten-year-old Auggie, who has always been home-schooled because he was born with severe facial deformities, enters fifth grade at a private Manhattan school. His experiences with teachers, administrators and other students are chronicled in this very memorable and important book. Auggie deals with bullies and insensitive people, but also develops good friends who learn to see beyond his appearance.

The author's decision to tell this story from multiple points of view is absolutely inspired and adds immeasurably to the book's impact. Funny, poignant and ultimately uplifting, this excellent book should--in my opinion--be read by every middle school student.
