** spoiler alert ** This book freaked me out. I wanted a nice breezy read, something "beachy" to help relieve the stress after a hard day in the minivan. But damn. The entire first half was spent eviscerating marital relationships, serving up infidelity after infidelity.

I suppose the metaphor that extramarital sex partners are like beach houses--i.e. inevitably temporary--flies, but why end with everyone ending up in actual beach houses? Are all relationships destined to end badly (after betrayal)? Green depicts one of the rare successful relationships through a gay couple who only made their commitment after a period of sexual free-for-all (which Green's "moral voice" claims is usual and expected for newly-out men). Where is the character of these people? The boundries.

Still, I recommend the book. These are good questions even though they are no pleasant beach read.
