** spoiler alert ** The book has detailed descriptions of the emotions, background and surroundings of a character, so that you can get a feel for them.

It doesn't kill off main characters and seems to be the start of at least a trilogy, so there nothing yet to say about the further development. My best guess is, that there will be a showdown at the end, with both sides forming up, since there is one in the end of 'Songs of the Earth', and that Gair will keep struggling with grief through book two, while becoming stronger.

However that does not account for any new parties joining the story as for example the house Tanith belongs to.
