The Stranger Beside Me (Revised and Updated): 20th Anniversary by Ann Rule
The book that made Ann Rule Famous, <i>The Stranger Beside Me<i> details her friendship with Ted Bundy, which developed before she got a book conract to write the story of the serial killer who was ravaging young women in Washington and Oregon. Rule did not know she was signing a contract to write a book about her friend Ted, and remained in contact with Ted even after he was in jail for murder. Quite fascinating, and particularly creepy for me, as I live in Seattle and know many of the places Rule writes about. After reading this, I couldn't look at a ditch or thicket without thinking of all the missing girls. Rule rambles on at the end a bit, and the 20th Anniversary addendums are disorganized and repetetive, but other than that this book is an interesting page-turner.
