I really enjoyed this - wonderful emotional depths and really just so much LOVE in it, it warmed my heart and did make me tear up a little. The narrative voice changed on each section and for the most part that worked, except for the sections told from the mom's viewpoint, because while there were some lovely, lovely, emotional nuances there in her stories, the magical element felt a bit awkward to me. (As did all of the blue plastic sandal sections, there was a tension there that was never appropriately resolved.) But the mother-child relationships (and her and her husband's) were beautifully drawn.
