Fred D's review
The Scarlet Letter (Penguin Classics) by Nathaniel Hawthorne
Not an enjoyable book. I'm sure I was missing something, but it seemed to me at the time the author in some way was trying to condone adultery, which I do not. Perhaps Hester did receive treatment that was too harsh to say the least, but she shouldn't be dressed up to be some sort of hero. I couldn't sympathize with her. I read this book in High School.
