it was amazing
bookshelves: fantasy, historical-fiction

I first encountered this delightful book in 1988 in an edition now long out of print. Bizarre is the best word I ever found to describe it. It's a pirate tale that follows Blackbeard's depridations in and around the colonial era Carrinean. Only it's a tale where Blackbeard (aka Edward Teach) is a voodoo priest able to cast spells and raise zombies, and who is on a search for the Fountian of Youth. He finds the fountain, as do our heroes, and what a very strange place it turns out to be.

I was reminded of this book a few years ago when the first Pirates of the Carribean movie came out. Wow! Pirates and walking dead! So much like On Stranger Tides! At first I thought the success of the Pirates movies might create a market for a film of this book. Then I thought it would never happen because a audience might find it derivative of the Depp films. Now I find out the fourth Pirates movie is going to be On Stranger Tides! Too much fun! I hope they don't mess it up.
