Blaire's review
The Man Who Understood Cats (John Thinnes/Jack Caleb Mysteries) by Michael Allen Dymmoch
I enjoyed the characters in this one and the interesting situation that the author sets up between the two protagonists. There's a lot less to the cat motif than I expected, which is neither here nor there, except that I thought at least one of the characters would be more cat-like than he was. The plot is well designed and well executed. I was a little disappointed in the ending – I felt the author pulled his punch a bit – but all in all I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good police procedural.
Hi Blaire,I glad you enjoyed this. I am a big fan of hers (Michael is a she). I always found it to be a good, solid series with this and The Feline Friendship being my favorites so far. I love the titles but agree they have little to do with the book and feel the series suffers for them as the titles make the book seem lighter than they are.
I've also read her novels. "The Fall" was good, "The Crymoch Ring," her attempt at Celtic time travel was, I thought, awful, but "Death in West Wheeling" was very good. I just receive her newest book "M.I.A." but haven't had a chance to read it yet.
Thinking of you,
LJ
