Eli Johnson has what some people wish for--eternal life. Only he has acquired it so he can be killed again and again to see what happens as he dies. Abilene Miller has what every newly graduated doctor wants--a cushy job which pays a boatload of money. But she can't figure out why she's being paid so much to process lab tests and see no patients. They are both lab rats in one way or another until he escapes and she runs with him all the way from California to Georgia. There is a strong attraction between them. But can he really trust that she's not part of the torture he's been subjected to? And can she really believe he sees her for who she is? This story grabs the reader by the throat and doesn't let go until those questions--and one or two others--are answered.
