Overall an excellent book on 20th century Indian history. It gives quite the breadth of information, and in many areas give a lot of depth as well. It definitely piqued my interest in a lot of different topics, such as Partition, the Emergency, linguistic and religious diversity in India, and the caste system. While it is fairly dense, it was engaging. One criticism I have is that he seemed to focus more on the negative than on the positive. While there were definitely tough times and a lot of bad things did occur, I'm sure more positive things happened as well.
