Arn Chorn-Pond is a friend of my school, Watkinson School in Hartford. One of the people he thanks in his acknowledgements is Charley Todd, former head of the school. Arn has been to my school several times to talk about his experiences; when we send students on service learning trips to Cambodia each summer, he is their guide.
Arn spoke, along with Patricia McCormick, the author, at my school this week. It was a very powerful assembly. I also just finished reading the book (there were copies for faculty at the school). I would call the book an easy read, in that the language is simple and it flows. However, I had to stop several times, just because the subject matter was overwhelming. I cannot imagine living through that.
Arn is an inspiration, and the book is an important one for young people and adults alike. It's a story that needs to be told, around the world.
