it was amazing

What a marvelous debut novel! Phillips's skill at crafting a tale in which the lives of a modern researcher and 17th-century Venetian courtesan intertwine is truly remarkable. With humor, pathos, and suspense we are transported across time and space by way of this brilliantly innovative story.

This perfect blending of spine-tingling 17th-century political intrigue with Claire Donovan's personal problems unfolds in captivating ways and will appeal to fans of both historical and contemporary fiction.
