Actually, I read this a few years ago. I didn't finish it the second go-round, not because it isn't good, but because it's one of the saddest, most disturbing books I've ever read (at the mid point of the novel there's a scene that I just found to be so painful, that I just set it aside). Basically, it's an American Gothic version of Camus' Plague, but far darker (as in the Book of Job). It's well done, but if you decide to read it, proceed with caution.
