With the inevitable closure of the Loggerhead Island Research Institute which employs their parents, the Virals may very well be separated. In order to save her pack, Tory decides she will raise the funds needed to keep Loggerhead operational. Money comes in the form of a pirate treasure and using their powers and intelligence, they just may find it.

I actually quite liked the pirate treasure plot line for this installment. I liked the riddles and how they managed to figure stuff out. I actually found this installment a lot more plausible than the first novel, no offense! Still, Tory gets on my nerves because she doesn't seem to take her friends' opinions into account. She just decides on something, her friends will say no, but then she emotionally blackmails them into agreeing or just go along with her plans and they do. I don't know, that's just one aspect of her personality that I don't really like.

Overall, great piece of work. 3.5 stars from me!

Lucy Heh, I found this one way less plausible than the first! Maybe it's the archaeologist in me, but solving a decades-old murder is way more realistic to me than finding pirate treasure! (I also think the reason why I love this series so much is that the archaeological methods of enquiry are so well researched.) I love Toris bossy nature too, lol. Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this series! XD
