I was disappointed that Ted Sorensen had no comment about the controversies over The Warren Report concerning the assassination of John F. Kennedy. It certainly was his perogative not to talk about it since recalling the death of JFK still seemed very painful to him. Ted Sorensen was one of Kennedy's closest advisors from the very beginning. Sorensen was part of John Kennedy's team during the late 1950's when Kennedy planned to run as the Democratic Nominee in the 1960 presidential race.
I also learned that his relationship with Jackie Kennedy was close and filled with admiration and respect, especially after the death of the president. only once did that waiver. A misunderstanding occurred when Jacqueline Kennedy read that Ted Sorensen was taking credit for the ideas in the speeches he wrote for JFK during Kennedy's presidency.
This raised the ire of Mrs. Kennedy and Sorensen received a very angry letter from Jackie stating her disappointment and regret. The letter is published in the book along with Sorensen's reply.
This letter along with others are published with permission from Caroline Kennedy. I found these personal letters revealing and interesting. I was also pleased to learn more about Ted Sorensen's close working relationship with President Kennedy and their loyalty and trust in each other.
