The Third Gate

by Lincoln Child
What an interesting story! Most readers have some knowledge of Egyptology from previous movies or books. This book, however, adds a deep layer of information even for the casual reader. The characters are interesting, especially the ones that are corrupted by the treasure hunt. Porter Stone is corrupted by the power and glory, Dr. March for the money, and Dr. Rush for the pursuit of knowledge. Rush reminded me of the major character in the Nathaniel Hawthorne short story "The Birthmark". Rush doesn't seem to mind or understand that his experiments with his wife's fragile hold on reality have caused her irreparable harm. This was my first Lincoln Child novel, but it will not be my last.
