I spent quite a bit of time thinking of how I would rate this book. It ended up with 3 stars mostly because reading China Mieville writing about trains made me wish I was reading Iron Council again. Railsea is a very uneven book, in my opinion. The characters and the world are well realized and exceptionally well written, but so many of the action sequences are so vaguely described they felt to me like the characters were moving through a fog bank. I knew something was happening, but I sure as hell couldn't picture it. I enjoyed it a lot, but I spent more time thinking about Iron Council and his other books that I did the actual novel I was reading...
