Uglies (Uglies, Book 1) by Scott Westerfeld
I couldn't finish it - I didn't make it past page 50 -- the writing was so juvenile. Maybe because it's young adult fiction. I guess after I loved the Twilight series I thought I would try another series from YA world - but *yawn*. (No offense to all my friends who love this series!) Maybe it got better after page 50...
I agree that the writing is very juvenile and it did take me a while to get into this series. I liked the second book the best.
