The capital in the title refers to London and also to the money made there, at least just before the GFC. Pepys Road is an affluent South London suburb where the houses, originally built for the lower middle class have appreciated enormously in value over a few generations and have undergone gentrification during that time. The people who live in these houses and those who touch their lives are the subjects of the book. Add a teenage Senegalese football star, an asylum seeker working illegally, a Polish builder a Hungarian nanny and a campaign of mysterious cards featuring photos of the houses and the legend 'We want what you have', and you have an engaging and witty tale. I enjoyed it.
