Tommie McCloud returns home to Texas when her father dies. And a few days later, she gets a letter from a woman claiming to be her mother, telling her that she was kidnapped as a child. It must be a horrible misunderstanding. But Tommie can't ask her father. And she can't ask her mother, whose dementia would make questions futile.

From that letter, Tommie's life starts taking some very strange turns that stretch the limits of credibility. Between reporters, members of the Chicago mafia, the FBI, and her seemingly irresistible old boyfriend, Tommie goes searching for the truth about who she is. Perfect for a movie on Lifetime.

The archetypal characters are somewhat one-dimensional. The predictable story somewhat too formulaic. It's something to read if you want somewhat mindless entertainment, but don't expect too much.
