it was amazing

The best historical novel of all time. Tolstoy contrasts the cold, sophisticated officer, Prince Andrei Bolkonski (war) with the good-hearted, bumbling Pierre Bezukhof (peace). Set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars, Andrei goes off to fight the French while Pierre stays behind to try and find himself. War dies and peace wins the lovely Natasha Rostova in the end. major and minor characters walk off the page, descriptions are lush, and the plot is never dull. A must read for anyone interested in this time period.
