This book took a lot of work to read, and had many thought-provoking rewards, but I would hesitate to recommend it to anyone not already a Neal Stephenson fan.
If you like thinking about technology, philosophy, history and futurism, there might be something in this book for you. If you prefer chewing whole grain bread with crunchy bits over a soft potato loaf, you might also enjoy this book.
Oddly, the book it made me think of most was PILLARS OF THE EARTH which was really easy to get through. In both cases, though, the author imagines a world he's never lived in, where people are dedicated to preserving knowledge and live in harmony with architecture.
