The good:
- This book feels like a comic book in many ways, and I find that fun.
- I liked the interaction of Verity and Dominic.
- There's lots of fun creatures that I want to know more about.

The not-so-good:
- I wasn't really invested in the story until around chapter 11. Verity is always rushing around, but it doesn't feel like a lot of stuff happens for a while.
- The author spends a lot of time on backstory which feels disruptive. I wonder if all of it is necessary so soon, or if she could've held back until later in the series. We don't actually get to meet most of the characters she talks about in these bits of backstory.
- I don't find Verity to be a terribly relatable character, and she's reckless to the point of being unbelievable.
- The repetition drove me nuts. You don't need to remind us on every other page that Verity is a dancer and a waitress. We remember these things.
- Many things were predictable to me, but this may be because I read too much fantasy and too many comic books.
