Allison's review
The Road by Cormac McCarthy
You know, I had a conversation with a friend about this book 2 days before I finished it, saying that I wasn't sure how I really felt about it. Like maybe I felt a little distant from the characters or the writing or something. It's not your typical story-telling. But the night I finished it, I sobbed. I mean, really cried about it. It really struck me suddenly how scary and beautiful and strange the whole book was and what it really said about this relationship between a father and his son and the horrible world they are trying to navigate. And when it's time to give up hope, if ever. I did enjoy it, even if I didn't realize it until it was over. I think that makes it even better though.
